In 2012, Protein Puck was born from a simple idea: to make nutritious, unprocessed food more accessible and convenient. Our founder Dave Tawney first created the Puck to help his brother, who was seeking the benefits of a clean diet, but was tired of the hassle of preparing nutrient dense smoothies every morning. He wanted something equally healthy but easier to grab on the go. While searching for a ready made solution at the grocery store, Dave noticed that nearly every protein bar on the shelf was packed with preservatives and artificial sweeteners. That’s when inspiration struck: why not create his own whole-food “cookie,” made only from real, clean ingredients?

After a few trial batches, the recipe was perfected. The result was the Wanderlust Puck (which is still a customer favorite!). At the time, Dave was running several coffee shops and noticed a growing demand for vegan and gluten-free options. When he introduced Protein Pucks to his shops, the response was overwhelming. Customers started buying them in bulk, and it wasn’t long before he couldn’t keep them on the shelves.

What started in Dave's kitchen soon expanded into a larger community movement. Local coffee shops, grocery stores, and eventually regional distributors joined the growing fanbase and helped take Protein Puck from a passion project to an established brand. Today, you can find Pucks at grocers across the country, now offered in six different flavors across three different sizes!
